Dr Asad Abbas Kazmi

Specialty Doctor – Older Persons Mental Health & Memory Services
MBBS

Dr Asad Abbas Kazmi is an experienced psychiatrist with a particular focus on Older Persons Mental Health, memory assessment and dementia care. He currently works within Older Persons Mental Health and Memory Services, with experience spanning community mental health teams, specialist memory services, dementia liaison and care-home liaison.

Dr Kazmi has several years of experience working within older adult psychiatry across NHS services. His work includes the assessment and management of older adults with complex mental health and cognitive presentations, conducting community and clinic-based assessments, developing treatment plans with patients and their families, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams and primary care. He has also contributed to regional dementia multidisciplinary team discussions and has extensive inpatient experience caring for people living with dementia and other later-life psychiatric conditions.

His broader medical background includes substantial experience in geriatric medicine, stroke medicine, rehabilitation and acute medicine. This provides a valuable foundation for working with older adults where psychiatric symptoms, cognitive change, physical illness, medication and functional difficulties frequently overlap.

Dr Kazmi also has clinical experience in adult ADHD medication management, having conducted ADHD titration clinics through an NHS Right to Choose service. His work has included initiating stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medication, monitoring response to treatment and modifying management according to clinical response and individual patient needs.

He also has experience assessing people with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and learning difficulties through his previous work as a Secretary of State-approved Functional Assessor. This involved detailed clinical assessment, consideration of supporting medical evidence and evaluation of the functional impact of physical, psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions.

His approach is thorough, collaborative and person-centred, with an emphasis on understanding both mental and physical health, involving families where appropriate, and developing practical management plans that reflect each individual’s needs and circumstances.
