Adult Psychiatry
At Oxford Psychiatry Group, our Adult Psychiatry service provides expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of mental health conditions affecting adults. We understand that mental health difficulties can impact every part of life, work, relationships, physical health and self-confidence. Our approach is thoughtful, evidence-based and compassionate, focusing on understanding you as a whole person and creating a personalised plan that supports both recovery and long-term wellbeing. All assessments and follow-ups are delivered remotely, allowing timely, confidential and accessible care across England.
Anxiety and Stress
Anxiety and stress are among the most common reasons adults seek psychiatric support. While stress is a natural response to pressure, it can become overwhelming or persistent, leading to symptoms such as constant worry, panic, physical tension, sleep disturbance and difficulty concentrating. Anxiety disorders occur when these responses continue even when there is no immediate threat and begin to interfere with daily life.
At Oxford Psychiatry Group, we assess the nature, triggers and impact of anxiety and stress on your wellbeing. Treatment may include psychological therapies, practical stress-management strategies, lifestyle support and, where appropriate, medication in line with NICE guidance. Our aim is to help calm the nervous system, restore balance and support you in feeling more in control of your thoughts and body.
Depression
Depression is a medical condition that affects mood, energy, motivation and thinking. It may present as persistent low mood, loss of interest in activities, fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, irritability, or feelings of hopelessness. Depression can develop gradually or follow life events, stress or illness, and it often affects relationships, work and physical health.
Our clinicians provide comprehensive assessments to understand the type and severity of depression, alongside any contributing factors. Treatment plans are tailored to the individual and may include talking therapies, medication, lifestyle interventions and ongoing review. With the right support, most people experience meaningful improvement and regain a sense of stability and purpose.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, organisation, impulse control and emotional regulation. In adults, it often presents as difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, restlessness, poor time management, emotional overwhelm or feeling chronically disorganised. Many adults remain undiagnosed until later in life, often after years of struggling without understanding why.
Oxford Psychiatry Group offers thorough, NICE-aligned ADHD assessments using recognised diagnostic frameworks. Where appropriate, treatment may include medication, behavioural strategies, coaching and psychological support. Our focus is on helping adults understand their cognitive style, reduce daily stress and develop practical tools that support success at work, at home and in relationships.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals experience the world, communicate and interact socially. Adults with autism may experience sensory sensitivities, social exhaustion, rigid routines, intense interests or difficulties with change. Many adults have learned to mask their traits, which can lead to burnout, anxiety or low self-esteem.
We provide respectful, neurodiversity-affirming autism assessments for adults. Our role is not to “label” but to help you gain clarity and understanding about how your brain works. Following diagnosis, we offer guidance, signposting and support strategies to help manage daily challenges, improve self-understanding and enhance quality of life.
Memory Support
Memory difficulties can arise for many reasons, including stress, anxiety, depression, physical health conditions or neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia. Early changes may include forgetfulness, difficulty finding words, problems with planning or confusion in familiar situations. For many people, memory concerns cause significant worry for both the individual and their family.
Oxford Psychiatry Group provides structured memory assessments to identify the cause of cognitive changes and determine appropriate next steps. Where necessary, we offer diagnosis, medication advice, psychological support and guidance for families and carers. Our approach focuses on clarity, reassurance and supporting independence, dignity and wellbeing for as long as possible.
Our Approach to Adult Psychiatry
Across all conditions, our adult psychiatry service is guided by clinical excellence, compassion and collaboration. We work closely with patients to develop personalised treatment plans and, where appropriate, can support shared care arrangements with GPs. Our clinicians follow NICE guidance and professional standards, ensuring care that is safe, ethical and evidence-based.
